The South Carolina Broadband Office and AT&T have announced a project to extend AT&T Fiber to over 9,000 new locations in Greenville and Charleston. AT&T has been chosen to bring Fiber to nearly 2,500 customers in Greenville, valued at $12.3 million, and nearly 6,900 customers in Charleston, valued at $10.5 million.

In today’s fast-paced, digital world, access to high-speed internet is essential for individuals and communities to thrive. Fiber internet is transforming communities in countless ways, from improving education and job opportunities to boosting the local economy and enabling new forms of innovation and collaboration.

One of the biggest benefits of fiber internet is the boost it gives to the local economy. Companies and entrepreneurs can use high-speed internet to connect with clients and suppliers from anywhere in the world, helping to attract new businesses to the area and create new job opportunities. This can lead to a virtuous cycle of economic growth, as more businesses and individuals move to the area, and demand for high-speed internet continues to grow.

Fiber Means Fiber Installer Jobs in South Carolina

Being a fiber installer can be a rewarding and fulfilling career for those who enjoy hands-on work and problem-solving. It offers a combination of technical expertise, manual dexterity, and customer service skills. The role requires a strong attention to detail and a willingness to work in various outdoor and indoor environments. As fiber technology continues to advance and become more widespread, fiber installers play a crucial role in connecting communities and businesses to high-speed internet. In addition to the satisfaction of completing each installation, fiber installers also enjoy stability and opportunities for growth within the telecommunications industry. With the increasing demand for fiber-based internet, being a fiber installer is a stable and growing job that offers a chance to make a tangible impact on people’s daily lives.

Fiber Means Impact on Education

Broadband internet is also having a major impact on education. With high-speed internet, students and teachers have access to vast amounts of information and educational resources, enabling them to deepen their knowledge and improve their skills. This is particularly important in rural and under-served communities, where students may not have access to the same resources as their urban counterparts.

In addition to these tangible benefits, broadband internet also helps to foster a sense of community and bring people together. Online forums and social media platforms allow individuals to connect with each other and share information and ideas, regardless of physical distance. This can help to build a sense of community and foster collaboration and innovation, as individuals come together to work on projects and solve problems.

“For South Carolina to remain competitive, especially in our rural areas, we must ensure that high-speed internet is a possibility for every South Carolinian, said. Gov. Henry McMaster. “Thanks to the partnership between the South Carolina Broadband Office and our private partners, like AT&T, we continue to make great progress and ultimately improve the quality of life for thousands of South Carolinians.”

Up to 5-Gig Fiber

Residents and businesses will soon have access to lightning-fast internet speeds of up to 5-Gig and significantly improved upload speeds, with 25 times faster upload speeds and more bandwidth than cable. This means customers will be able to connect multiple devices, stream multiple sources of entertainment, quickly upload content to social media, and enjoy ultra-low lag for professional-level gaming all at once.

Work on this project, which involves extensive planning and engineering, will start immediately. The construction of the network is expected to be finished by the end of 2024.

“Bringing fast and reliable AT&T Fiber to Greenville and Charleston is a prime example of how we’re helping to close the digital divide through public-private partnerships,” said AT&T South Carolina President Jane Sosebee. “With AT&T Fiber, we’re connecting more South Carolinians with blazing fast internet that will help enhance education, telemedicine and entrepreneurship in the Palmetto State.”

AT&T boasts a wealth of experience in the deployment of fiber-optics throughout South Carolina. Currently, over 400,000 locations in the state have access to AT&T Fiber.

AT&T is dedicated to expanding the availability of AT&T Fiber through public-private partnerships in communities nationwide and bridging the digital divide by promoting adoption and providing affordable internet options.

The Federal Affordable Connectivity Program

One such effort is AT&T’s participation in the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). This program offers eligible households a benefit of up to $30 per month ($75 per month on qualifying tribal lands) to reduce the cost of broadband service, which can be applied to AT&T Fiber or Access from AT&T with speeds of up to 100Mbps for $0 after the ACP benefit is applied.

To take advantage of this opportunity, eligible households should call 866-986-0963 or visit AT&T online and have their ACP application ID ready. Here, they can review their options and order service.
