R&M is expecting more investments in fiber optic infrastructures in all market segments.

About R&M

Source: R&M

R&M (Reichle & De-Massari) is a Swiss-based company that specializes in the design, production, and distribution of infrastructure solutions for the telecommunications industry. They provide a wide range of products and services, including fiber optic cable systems, data center solutions, and network management tools. The company has been in business for over 60 years and has a global presence with offices and partners in over 80 countries. R&M is known for its high-quality products and innovative solutions that help customers to build and maintain efficient and reliable network infrastructure.

They are predicting that the demand for fiber optic cabling will continue to rise. According to current market studies, this trend is expected to accelerate in 2023. R&M’s Chief Marketing Officer, Andreas Rüsseler, notes that this increase in demand is not limited to data center providers upgrading their networks, but also includes the expansion of broadband supply through Fiber to the Home Installers (FTTH) and the emerging market of Fiber to the Antenna (FTTA). Rüsseler shares more information on this topic and other industry trends on his blog.

Convergence for hybrid data centers

According to R&M’s Chief Marketing Officer, the increasing demand for efficient and effective infrastructures is driving the trend towards convergent hybrid network solutions. He states that various new applications require real-time data processing to be done closer to the source, and hybrid data centers are able to fulfill this need by integrating physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructures to create network-based data centers. However, for complete convergence, it is crucial to have powerful fiber-optic (FO) based access and backbone networks available. With more and more businesses looking to optimize their network infrastructures, the demand for FO cabling and solutions is expected to continue to grow.

Broadband supply convergence

R&M also expects to see similar growth in the fiber optic broadband supply market. This is due to network providers currently expanding Fiber to the Home (FTTH), Fiber to the Antenna (FTTA), and Fiber to the 5G Antenna (FTT5G) to meet the growing demand for faster and more reliable internet connections. R&M believes that with properly designed network infrastructures, these networks can be shared to achieve convergence, which is becoming increasingly important as users and applications in smart cities require seamless data traffic between 5G cells, LAN, Wi-Fi, and between private, virtual, and public areas. This is driving the need for robust and efficient fiber-optic based access and backbone networks, which R&M specializes in providing.

Andreas Rüsseler, the only way to meet the growing demands for efficient and reliable network infrastructure is through a universal fiber optic network. He believes that fiber optics are becoming a universal, integrated backbone, and in just a few years, the majority of communications networks will run via a standard, holistic fiber optic backbone. He also emphasizes that fiber optic cabling plays a crucial role in the convergence of LAN, Ethernet/IP, and building automation in smart buildings. As the need for more sophisticated, integrated network infrastructure solutions continue to grow, fiber optic cabling is becoming increasingly important for ensuring seamless data traffic between different systems and devices. Rüsseler also states that R&M is well-positioned to support this trend with their comprehensive portfolio of fiber optic cabling and solutions for various applications.
